I can't find the language node(Databases->YOUR DB NAME->Languages. Am I
missing something or is this by design? I personally found this node handy
in previous versions.

It's by design - a new feature in 1.8. Look in "File | Options |
Display" (the last one is new). There are the categories to be displayed
in a DB's tree. By default the languages are not displayed.
