Customer Service fast and to the point
Broken recovery and a 2-week support queue.
I’m posting this as a warning to anyone considering mailbox.org for their primary email. I am currently locked out of my main account because my 2FA device died, and the service is fundamentally failing on every level to provide a solution.
1. The SMS Recovery is broken: I have a recovery phone number on file, but the system simply refuses to send the code. It’s a complete "dead end" bug.
2. The Support "Catch-22": You cannot post on the official support forum without logging in. You cannot open a ticket through the portal without logging in. If you are locked out, you are essentially ghosted.
3. Abysmal Response Times: After some digging, I managed to find their helpdesk email, and the automated response told me that because they are "busy" with a system relaunch and new customers, I might have to wait TWO WEEKS for a reply.
I need my account for banking and personal security, and I’m being told to just sit tight for 14 days? This is a PAID "security" service, but their recovery infrastructure is absolutely freaking broken.
If any mods or staff are reading this, Ticket #8751617 has been open since Friday.
TL;DR: If you lose your 2FA device, mailbox.org will effectively hold your data hostage for weeks while their support "catches up." Consider Proton or Tuta instead.

E-Mail provider using open protocols…
E-Mail provider using open protocols where the standard and premium package allow custom email domains. There is also address book and calendar support using WebDAV (open standard supported by Android phones for example). They also use a nice web interface. And they use Linux servers. There is also support for PGP email encryption. Have been using it for a few months now and I am very satisfied.
fast and accurate response
Thank you for kind, fast and accurate response.

Account deleted one month after payment due date.
I was reminded that a payment was due. I paid, but unfortunately my account had already been deleted. One month after due date.
They should have given me more time before deleting all.
The service is excellent . Use english as first language , please !
The service is excellent, as are the prices. The only drawback is that the default language is German rather than English, both on the home page and in the tickets.

Mailbox is an excellent service…
Mailbox is an excellent service provider. I fully trust their integrity and safety, and the services I use (email, contacts, and calendars) work flawlessly. I have contacted their support a couple of times, and their responses were prompt, polite, and professional each time.

I finally deleted my gmail account!

Feature rich on privacy
Feature rich on privacy, easy to use and fair pricing. Complies with open standards like GPG and IMAP/SMTP.
A small problem is that their inbound spam filter still needs some improvement. Doesn't respect SPF, dkim or dmarc, even if I select the most aggressive protection in settings. Email failing to authenticate will still land on inbox.

Private and feature-rich
I recently switched to mailbox.org and have been quite happy so far.
They have lots of options, which I love - I want my mail setup to be customizable.
It is obvious that they care about their users' privacy, for example, the webmail automatically replaces http links to embedded images with their https counterpart. It also has a good PGP implementation, though to be honest, that should really happen in an external client.
Their support for web standards is flawless, for example they use Dovecot (Open-Xchange) for their IMAP service, that is the same choice I would make if I ran my own mail server (which is too much of a hassle). They support IPv6, DANE and DNSSEC.
They have the option to encrypt all incoming mails (using a PGP key), so they are encrypted at rest. Unlike Tuta, that is an interopable standard that works with other providers. And with the new HKPS and WKD key servers, PGP is much more user-friendly these days.
My recent interaction with Jens from support was resolved friendly and quickly.
I wish their highest plan had some more mail storage included - if you decide to pay three times as much as their next-lower plan, I think you should receive at least three times as many GB. If it had e.g. 50 GB, I would gladly upgrade to it.

A satisfied customer
I am overall very satisfied with the email services which I am using for four years now. I happily pay some (small) monthly fees, if I know that privacy is better protected than with free email providers. I do also enjoy the many aliases to take better control of spamming. I never needed any support (...knock on wood!).

False advertising of cancellation policy
There is no mobile app.
The web interface looks old.
What frustrated me the most was that they did not honour their refund policy. They say they have a 30 day trial and a full refund before the 14th day. They never accepted to refund me before the 14th day.

Happy with own custom domain for years
Mailbox.org is a great choice, especially if you want to use your own custom domain for email. It takes a bit of fiddling to set up, but it's worth it. I decided to use my own domain to be more flexible and less dependent on the email provider itself.
What I really like is how they combine this custom domain feature with top-notch privacy and security. You get the best of both worlds – your own branded email address and strong protection for your data. Plus, the additional tools like the calendar and cloud storage are a nice bonus. If privacy and customization are important to you, it's hard to beat.

For years there have been problems with sync calendar/drive/contacts via the outdated OX software. Mailbox does not even answer my mails to their help-desk. Complete neglect of their paying customers.
Pathetic !

Super happy customer
I am a super happy customer since several years. Whenever I had an issue, both human support and their knowledge base were super helpful. I would prefer a subscription mode where my IBAN account or credit card is automatically charged whenever my contact needs to be renewed - this would take care of a potential risk.
My wife and I use mailbox for emails and shared calendars - it works flawlessly. We store 5 and 7 GB of emails. The folks behind mailbox are real email gurus, Mr Heinlein wrote one of the standard textbooks on IMAP. No wonder that the server is blazingly fast (compare that with Exchange...) I use Thunderbird / Nine / OX Sync and this don't care about the web interface.
They have a stellar security track record. In my opinion, this and the fact that I can trust them with my most personal data is worth the subscription fee.

Avoid - they have no interest in staying in business
They seem to want to go out of business.
I am unable to reset my password as their system does not send out reset links. Their support portal even requires your password to access. Their support desk is unresponsive.
So I cannot renew my subscription and have lost access to my inbox.
PS. They said they issued a Temporary password but didn't. They refused to send it to the email address I provided. Their recovery process is flawed in addition to their password reset flow.
So I am now going to lose my emails and have to find a new email provider. Well done.
