Welcome, Gals, and happy nearly-Galentine’s Day (or happy Galentine’s Day if you’re reading this on February 13th)! Yes, you guessed it – today, we’re here to discuss some ideas and a general guideline on how to throw a Galentine’s Day party. Here’s a little fun fact for you – Galentine’s Day originated in a TV show called Parks & Rec (2009-2015) as a day for “ladies celebrating ladies” (Leslie Knope a.k.a Amy Poehler) and has since become a widely recognized day to spend with your gal pals. Who knew that something written for the screen would become a celebrated day throughout the country?
As Leslie Knope would attest: Your friends are present through the various facets of your life, rejoicing in all of your accomplishments, being your ear when that person at work is ruining your day, and holding your hand when you need it the most. So, that’s exactly why your relationships with them should also be honored and cherished! It’s also a common misconception that Galentine’s is only for the single folks, but we’re here to clear that up and say, no, it’s for all the gals (all genders included)! So forget about commitment, forget about significant others, because this day is all about shining a spotlight on all of those friendships that make life all the more meaningful.
Pick a Gal-Worthy Theme
Before thinking about anything else party-related, consider adding a theme! That way, you’ll have the foundation, making the whole party planning process a tad easier! Here, we have a few suggestions, but every friend group is different, so consulting the gals beforehand is definitely a good strategy
Pink Barbiecore
On Wednesdays (and, heck, every other day of the week) we wear pink! Think neon-pink décor, adorably decorated desserts, lavish cocktails, and of course, the pinker the outfit, the better!
A Gals Night In
Who needs a night out when you can have your own little wine-filled chaos at home? Think candlelit rooms, charcuterie boards, bottomless glasses of wine, and your best loungewear!
Slumber Party
Let’s relive those middle school days, emphasizing quality time and cozy glam. Think juicy-flavored lip gloss, friendship bracelets, lots of junk food, and your best pajamas!
Vision Board Party
Who says vision board goal-setting can’t involve glue, scissors, and a cheeky glass of rosé? Think inspirational prompts, affirmations, trashy magazines, and witchy rituals!
Self-Care Soirée
Consider this your official permission slip to indulge, recharge, and give yourself all the love you deserve. Think robe dress couture, face masks, playlists that pop off, and wellness drinks (tea or cocktails, your choice).
Gather the Gals
A Galentine’s without the gals would be, well, “entine’s,” and that doesn’t really have a fun ring to it. On that note, it’s time to whip up your best invitation ideas and send them out! Of course, you could send out a casual text message, but where’s the fun in that? And if you’re feeling just a little bit extra, send out your cards in chic envelopes and print out a sticker that matches the vibe you’re going for, be it a popping pink party or a perfect self-care night of pampering!
A Space Styled for the Gals
Now that you’ve chosen your theme, and yes, you made an excellent choice (whatever it is), it’s time to think about some décor! First things first – how will the gals know where to go without a sign to point the way? Okay, they’ve probably been to your house in the past, but that’s neither here nor there. Then, fill the main party area (be it your living room, kitchen, or entire house) with banners, fairy lights (a necessity, if you ask us), neon signs, balloons, hats, tablecloths, and whatever else you can think of! If there’s one thing for certain, we know your venue will be decorated to the nines!
Snack Like a Galentine
There are a million and one options here to choose from (thank you, internet), from a buffet-style meal and fine dining, all the way to a table filled with junk food. Naturally, you’ll need to grab the essentials like plates, cutlery, napkins, and all that jazz, too! If you’ve got all of that sitting in your cupboards, then that’s something you can check off the list. In any case, here are a few suggestions of food/drink options to consider.
Mini Cupcake Station
Bite-sized cupcakes are simply a must, no questions. Pre-bake the base and allow your guests to decorate it however they like!
All-You-Can-Eat Junk Food Selection
Get ready for rumbly sugar and salt-filled bellies. Lay out the table with every kind of chip, chocolate, and chewy sweets you can find!
Cocktail/Mocktail Bar
Honestly, this one is suitable for just about any party theme. Create your own signature cocktail/mocktail or prepare a menu with a few that you’ve mastered!
“Love Yourself” Charcuterie Board
Charcuterie boards are a simple, yet elegant (and we can’t forget, delicious) way to elevate your party. To make it on-theme, arrange your meats, cheeses, and fruits in a giant heart!
Indulgent Three-Course-Meal
Everyone deserves to be wined and dined. Prepare a starter, main, and a sweet treat because your gals deserve the crème de la crème (dessert idea there for you).

Goodie Bags for the Gals
Keep this hush-hush! Your gal pals deserve one final show of appreciation, and what better way than to present them with a gift at the end of the party? Fill up a bag with a variety of favors like scented candles, chocolates, face masks, lip gloss, and sunnys. You can also alter it depending on your chosen theme! To top it off, add a cute, personalized message on a gift tag or a secret note placed in each individual bag.
With that, we’ve come to the end of this week’s party planning guide! We hope you and the gals have the best Galentine’s day! Show the gals you appreciate every little thing they bring to your life, and remind them just how much you cherish that love. After all, what is Galentine’s Day if not “the best day of the year” (Leslie Knope a.k.a Amy Poehler)?
