Departments and executive agencies

The European Commission is organised into:

  • Policy departments, known as Directorates-General, responsible for different policy areas. They develop, implement and manage EU policy, law, and funding programmes
  • Service departments dealing with particular administrative issues
  • Executive agencies managing programmes set up by the Commission

The Recovery and Resilience Task Force was operational until 1 February 2025. The Reform and Investment Task Force has taken over its responsibilities.

The Reform and Investment Task Force supports the design and implementation of growth-enhancing reforms and investments by managing the Recovery and Resilience Facility and implementing the Technical Support Instrument.

The Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy develops and implements the Commission's policies on regions and cities.

The Directorate-General for Research and Innovation manages and develops EU policy on research, science and innovation.

The Secretariat-General supports the Commission President and the whole Commission, and manages the overall coherence of the Commission’s work.

The Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support was operational until 1 February 2025. The Reform and Investment Task Force has taken over its responsibilities.
