Our Story
dGB Earth Sciences was founded in 1995 in the Netherlands with a clear purpose: to turn seismic data into actionable intelligence through innovation and automation.
Our origins trace back to a defining moment in the energy industry — a 1990s Statoil (now Equinor) incident where a drilling rig collapsed after striking a high-pressure gas pocket.
Recognizing that accurate mapping of these subsurface trails could prevent future blowouts, Statoil funded dGB to develop an automated, neural network–based approach to pattern recognition in seismic data.
What began as a solution to a safety challenge has become a global platform for data-driven exploration and operational excellence.

Nanne Hemstra
Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Winner of the Amoco Prize for Academic Excellence
As CEO of dGB Earth Sciences, Nanne drives the company's strategic vision and oversees its global operations. Nanne has been instrumental in the development of OpendTect since joining dGB in 2001 as a geoscientific software engineer, contributing to nearly every innovation within the platform — including its sequence stratigraphic and AI functionalities.

As Chief Technology Officer, Arnaud oversees dGB's global software development teams in Enschede and Houston, leading the technical direction of the OpendTect platform. With more than 20 years in the geoscience industry, Arnaud is one of the key software architects behind OpendTect and the main developer of its Machine Learning plugin.
