DS Housing price and sales > Information on data > EN > Revamp

The analysis and monitoring of housing markets require high-quality official statistics for the national, European Union and euro area markets. Information on the evolution of house prices is particularly important for financial stability and macro-prudential supervision and for economic and monetary policy making.

House price index

The following data are available:

  • annual data, expressed as an index (2015 = 100) and as an annual rate of change
  • quarterly data, expressed as an index (2015 = 100), quarterly and annual rates of change
  • annual item weights, expressed as parts per thousand.

Information on the release dates for quarterly data can be found in the Euro indicators release calendar.

The weights are usually compiled using data from national accounts, and construction statistics, among other sources. The item weights are released at the same time as the indices for the first quarter of the year.

Data are not seasonally adjusted.

House sales

The following data are available:

  • number of transactions
    • annual data, expressed as an index of the number of transactions (2015 = 100) and as an annual rate of change
    • quarterly data, expressed as an index (2015 = 100), quarterly and annual rates of change, and percentage of the total annual number of transactions
  • value of transactions
    • annual data, expressed as an index of the value of transactions (2015 = 100) and as an annual rate of change
    • quarterly data, expressed as an index (2015 = 100), quarterly and annual rates of change, and percentage of the total annual value of transactions

Owner-occupied housing price index

The following data are available:

  • annual data, expressed as an index (2015 = 100) and as an annual rate of change
  • quarterly data, expressed as an index (2015 = 100), quarterly and annual rates of change
  • annual weights for items and for countries
