When security breaches occur, quick and coordinated action is of the essence. With the support of EU funds, the Central Bureau of Investigation and Police Operational Units in Poland are improving intelligence sharing and protocols to respond to potential breaches, ensuring security in the Union.

As part of a wider consultation, the Commission is inviting citizens, organisations and stakeholders to share their views on the future of security in the EU, gathering feedback on the current state of security and identifying key priorities for the upcoming European Internal Security Strategy.

On 1 January, Romania and Bulgaria became full members of the Schengen Area after the checks on persons at the internal land borders were lifted. Welcoming both member states into the Schengen area will boost travel, trade and tourism and contribute to strengthening the internal market.
