Inanna, also known as the Great Wolf, is one of the two beings formed from the splitting of Dilimbabbar, one of the colossi of Havenhythe. She is considered a manifestation of the magic of Havenhythe itself, appearing as though she were part of the landscape.[1] To the inhabitants of Wendlewick, she is seen as not only a goddess, but a messenger of the gods. She is particularly revered in Amberfell, where she has a close personal relationship with the villagers, whom she treats as her pack, regularly joining them in hunting game when they transform.[2] She is an aloof deity who roams the island and does not remain in any one place constantly.
Her brother is Utu, the other being formed from Dilimbabbar, however she doesn't wish to meet him.
Players meet her as a non-player character during the Secrets of Amberfell quest.
History
[edit | edit source]Inanna was formed when Dilimbabbar, consumed by fury and grief following the death of Kayazu at the hands of the Chimera Queen's forces, used the power of the lunar wheel to tear himself in two. Inanna was formed from his fond memories of Kayazu and whatever hope remained within him, and was charged with continuing Kayazu's legacy of guiding and protecting the people of Havenhythe.[3] Her brother Utu was formed from Dilimbabbar's resentment, shame, and regret, and charged with standing watch over the temple.
Inanna has watched over Havenhythe since ancient times. She was known to the locals, who attributed her to the peace and protection she provided for them. She would also give the inhabitants visions. She is aware of Guthix and his blessing, recognising those who once carried it.[4]
During the Sixth Age, when the Adventurer drank a dragonfire mead, they blacked out from the extreme spiciness. While unconscious, Inanna telepathically communicated with them, revealing a future in which Havenhythe would be destroyed by an ancient enemy, but they were key to stopping the vision from becoming true. The adventurer heeded the vision and managed to charter a ship to Wendlewick and informed one of the leaders, Adam, of their vision. Though Adam was surprised to learn that an outsider had been granted a vision, he told them to head to the Shrine of Inanna and speak to its keeper, Shrine Tender Joanna. Joanna witnessed Inanna respond to the adventurer at their altar, sending them back to Adam to confirm that Inanna indeed had granted them a vision.
When word of plague spreading to Amberfell reached Wendlewick, the adventurer and Anya, a vampyre who had assisted with stopping the plague from moving westwards, went to investigate the town. Inanna appeared and threatened Anya due to her vampyric heritage, knowing the plague was vampyre-born. Inanna accompanied the adventurer to investigate the town, before meeting the scout who sent the message at the Moonrise Temple north of it. Anya returned, but was followed by sanguine-infested feral vampyres and sanguine crawlers. The player and Inanna fought them off when Anya fled, with one vampyre attacking and injuring Inanna, causing a sanguine infection. She fled to her own realm called Inanna's Den, growing weaker as the plague spread through her body. With Anya's help, the player and Esther used some of Inanna's blood to create an empowered antisanguine that cured her of the affliction. With her recovery, she thanked Anya for her help despite her previous hostility, and the three used the remainder of the potion to cure Sorrel, Amberfell's town leader, who had also been infected with the sanguine plague. Inanna has since taken to watching over the village, defending it from the sanguine blight, until ready to take the fight to the east.[2]

One of the points I put on her character brief is that she looks like she could just melt into the forest and then kind of leap out again, like she's one with the trees in a way."
