I am using Thunderbird V144.0.1 on a computer running Windows 11 Home build 26100. Suddenly, Thunderbird stopped displaying some of my Local Folders. I don't know what I did to cause it; I don't recall making any changes. On investigating the issue, none of the other help I found in the forums or elsewhere on-line worked for me.

While performing one of the instructions, I was trying to copy my Thunderbird profile mail folder to a different location before creating a new profile. Copying the folder gave me an error of a file name being too long. I moved the folder with the too-long file into a different subfolder with a shorter directory name. Lo and behold, all of my folders, including the ones I moved, are now appearing in my Thunderbird Local Folders.

I don't really need any help, but I wanted to post this solution since I didn't encounter it anywhere else.

Just what it says. Using the latest version of Thunderbird on Windows 11 Pro.

I have had my usa.net account use the same IMAP settings forever; I double-checked my settings and they are correct.

Now, I get a LOT of email on that account -- I typically download it when I hit 10K messages. This usually isn't a problem.

I tried moving all of my current Inbox (already in TBird) to my archives. I was then able to download about 1K messages and then it stalled downloading. Said I either didn't have write access to the disk or had a file permission. I'm not seeing anything on the web interface for usa.net on this.

Now, I have 3 other IMAP accounts on T-bird -- 1 is never used (default from my ISP), a 2nd is very light traffic (mostly I stick with that email provider because they are small and still have private shell accounts) and the 3rd is my business vanity domain--high traffic but not the same as usa.net (where I get ALL my receipts for any online purchases, daily newsletters, help forums, etc).

Any idea what may be going on? Please be kind; I am not a programmer, just a more tech-savvy than the average bear (as in if IT is busy at work people ask me for regular stuff).

If any more info/filedump stuff is needed to see what's going on, please do let me know and I will tag it up asap.

Thanks again, community!

I installed Thunderbird half a year ago. During the first three or four months everything was perfect. Then it stopped receiving messages for a couple of days, opened up for a short time (a few hours) and downloaded all messages from the period, then stopped again for days. I can always send messages, but during the receive-stop periods Thunderbird will not store the messages online. I also have (new)Outlook installed, and it keeps receiving all messages, but I would prefer to only use Thunderbird if this problem is solved. My mail provider is the danish Yousee. I use IMAP. My system is Microsoft Windows 11. Do you have any clues to where the problem lies ?

I have a number of accounts setup in Thunderbird, some are gmail accounts and some are Yahoo accounts.

After the last Thunderbird release one, a couple days ago, of my Yahoo accounts stopped working and wanted me to authentic it. It pops up with a Yahoo window to login. I tried to login with my username and password which didn't work so I went into Yahoo and created a new app password and tried that. It won't work either. I just get the message, something went wrong.

Then my other Yahoo account stopped sending out emails, just get a connection timeout message. Now my gmail accounts won't send out emails either. I can receive incoming emails, but not send out emails.

This is the message that I get when trying to send out an email now:

Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com timed out. Try again.

I have searched and checked that my Outgoing server settings are correct for both Yahoo and Gmail. I have a different outgoing server for each email account and they have different unique description names. Cookies are enabled, accept cookies from third-party sites is set to Always. I had Auto-detect proxy settings, have now tried No Proxy.

I am using Microsoft Defender for my virus protection.

This is how my Outgoing Gmail SMTP settings are set: Description: Gmail - [email protected] Server Name: smtp.gmail.com Port: 465 Username: [email protected] Authentication method: OAuth2 Connection Security: SSL/TLS

This is how my Outgoing Yahoo SMTP settings are set: Description: Yahoo SMTP - [email protected] Server Name: smtp.mail.yahoo.com Port: 465 Username: [email protected] Authentication method: OAuth2 Connection Security: SSL/TLS

Any ideas of what else to try would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

OS: Linux Mint 22.1 Mozilla Thunderbird 140.4.0esr Junk Mail Header: SpamAssassin

It has been stared around a week ago, Thunderbird gives notification as any spam email arrives. Although those spam mails are accordingly redirected into the spam folder, also marked as spam well, but the user interface and the audio notification still come though.

This behaviour is unlikely Thunderbird used to act, in my computer, and I've been using it for years. I haven't touched any setting for months. It just started doing this like out of the blue.

It's a non Gmail account, so no provider spam filter. Is there a solution for this?

As of 10.8 I have been able to send but not receive emails from my AOL account, which now has 650 emails sitting there waiting to come into my Tbird. Assuming it's a problem with the pop server settings, and last time an AI-generated password did the trick (but done by tech guy not I). I cannot seem to reset the password to make it work and would be grateful for any suggestions. I've made an external backup of the whole default profile just in case.

A fair number of folders in my primary email address's inbox have been out of sorted order for at least several months.

Most of them are folders I access quite often; they now appear AFTER what used to be the last folder ("Zoom").

If this is a "feature," I suggest moving the highest activity folders to the FRONT of the inbox rather than to the BACK.

HOW DO I RE-SORT MY INBOX FOLDERS?

Thank you.

Hello, I hope I'm in the right subforum. I have the following problem.

In my system settings, Opera is set as the default browser, using the command "opera %U --lang=de."

Unfortunately (despite the system-wide setting), when I want to open an https link, Thunderbird still asks me which application I want to use. Unfortunately, as is usually the case, I can't select one from the application menu (where the corresponding command is stored in Opera). Instead, I have to search for and specify the application in the /usr/bin folder. This logically opens the link with the "opera" command and not with the "--lang=de" option. However, Thunderbird doesn't accept a desktop file under "Open with...", where you could add the option.

I've now created a shell file with the following content:

  1. ! /bin/bash

opera %U --lang=de

This opens the browser as desired when I click the link, but only with the home page; the link isn't passed.

My question is, how would the command in the shell file need to be changed to open the link, or is there any way to get Thunderbird to open links with the command "opera %U --lang=de"?

Thank you.

I am getting regularly getting a random notification sound even when no E-mails have been received.

It seems to be when Thunderbird is automatically checking for E-mails, so for example if i have it set to check for new e-mails every 5 Mins I will get a notification sound every 5 mins or whatever I set that time to.

How do I turn off this sound without affecting the notification when a new e-mail is received.

I only recently started using Thunderbird a couple weeks ago and it's mostly nice but I can't figure out how to get notifications to alert anywhere. There's no alert nor number badge on my taskbar (in fact it doesn't show up in the system tray icons app list either), it doesn't play a sound (set on default or on custom sound), and doesn't show up on the Windows notifications center.

  • I'm using Windows 11 and Thunderbird version 144.0.1 (64-bit).
  • Notifications are On in the Windows settings
  • Volume mixer is fine, it shows 100% volume
  • Windows settings is NOT on Do Not Disturb mode
  • Thunderbird isn't listed on Taskbar System Tray Icons
  • Other areas of sound are working just fine - I can also play the sound when testing the alert
  • No special folder rules or anything, pretty much everything is the same as when I got it set up

It seems to be receiving emails just fine but of course I have to keep checking periodically if a new email has shown up, which isn't ideal.
