European Ombudsman 

If you are not satisfied with the way the EU institutions have treated you, the European Ombudsman may be able to help.

The Ombudsman promotes good administration and investigates citizens’ complaints regarding the actions of EU institutions and bodies, including the European Parliament, the Council of the EU, the European Commission, and all EU agencies. 

The Ombudsman usually conducts inquiries on the basis of complaints but can also take the initiative to start them and can look into broader systemic issues within the institutions.

The Ombudsman serves for a period of five years that can be renewed. Its offices are in in Strasbourg.

In December 2024, the European Parliament elected Teresa Anjinho as the new European Ombudsman.
