The European Parliament on social media

The European Parliament represents the European citizens. By shaping policies on issues such as climate change, digital rights, and economic growth, among many others, the Parliament's work has a direct impact on the daily lives of Europeans.

As Parliament is dedicated to keeping everyone informed about its decisions and involving citizens in shaping Europe's future, it has a presence on many social media platforms as that's what people increasingly use to find information.

Its goals are:

  • providing factual and reliable information on what Parliament is doing and why this matters
  • showing Parliament as an open institution that is close to Europeans and is taking important decisions on their behalf
  • enabling citizens to follow important events and debates live, giving everyone the chance to witness how decisions are made
  • reaching new audiences and engage with them by building active communities.

Parliament has set up accounts on a whole range of platforms to get in touch with different audiences, trying to speak to people in the language they prefer and engaging with them on the topics they find interesting.

Find below a non-comprehensive list of Parliament's central and national social media channels.

Parliament's central channels offer news and videos from plenary sessions, committee meetings and other events. Parliament's liaison offices in each EU country operate separate accounts to provide a local context to what is happening at the EU and build communities on social media platforms of their choice.
