A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. The aim of the public hearing on "Own Resources for the future: critical review & opportunities" is to evaluate the expected impact of the proposed basket of new own resources (Commission proposal 2025/0574(CNS)) on the Union's financial autonomy and resilience, critically analyse potential adoption challenges and weaknesses, and assess alternative revenue sources as complementary or possible substitute options.
