On Tuesday 26 January at 16:00, Ms Maja Markovčić Kostelac, the Executive Director of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) will discuss with MEPs hot topics such as the state of play of maritime safety in the EU, the strategy adopted until 2028 and the entry into force of the new expanded mandate of the Agency.
On 27 January 2026, the TRAN Committee will welcome the Cyprus Presidency: Mr Alexis Vafeades, Minister of Transport, Ms Marina Hadjimanolis, Deputy Minister of Shipping, and Mr Kostas Koumis, Deputy Minister of Tourism. The ministers will present to the Members the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency in the field of transport and tourism.
The recent months have seen a surge in actions posing risks to the European civil aviation, such as meteorological balloons sent from Belarus or drones over European airports.
On Monday 12 January, MEPs on the Transport and Tourism (TRAN) Committee will vote to update the EU air passenger rights rules in force since 2004, in order to ensure that passengers are sufficiently protected against travel disruptions, such as, denied boarding, delayed or cancelled flights.
During the TRAN meeting on 12 January, the Committee will discuss two draft reports on the Commission proposal of the Roadworthiness Package.
