Interparlamentariske møder

European Parliament participated in the 46th General Assembly of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia in its capacity as an AIPA Observer Parliament. The General Assembly was hosted by AIPA Presidency, the Parliament of Malaysia. EP was represented by DASE Chair Wouter Beke (EPP, BE), and Vice Chairs Idoia Mendia (S&D, ES) and Vlad Voiculescu (RE, RO). During the General Assembly EP held bilateral observer parliament dialogue with AIPA Member State Parliaments ASEAN Member States and Timor-Leste, and Myanmar absent. The meeting also marked as the 4th Inter-Regional EP-AIPA Dialogue Meeting, which is held annually in an alternating principle in EU and ASEAN.

In the sides of the Assembly EP Delegation held in total 10 bilateral meetings with other delegations. The counterparts included three speakers (Malaysia, Cambodia and Timor-Leste), three deputy speakers (Philippines, Singapore and Viet Nam), and 3 chairs of foreign affairs committee. EP delegates also met Hon. Wong Chen, Chair of the Special Select Committee on International Relations and International Trade of Malaysia and Dr. Chem Widya, the incoming next AIPA Secretary General from Cambodia. Moreover, EP had organised side programme in Kuala Lumpur to meet EU Ambassador and EU MS Ambassadors and EuroChamber members. A site visit was made to Belgian company Materialise.
