Written explanations of vote Marko VEŠLIGAJ

Members can submit a written explanation of their vote in plenary. Rule 194

Feasibility of a 28th tax regime and its potential to support EU competitiveness

I voted in favour because a well-designed 28th tax regime could help strengthen the competitiveness of European startups and scale-ups by reducing unnecessary barriers within the Single Market. At the same time, it must ensure fair competition, respect workers’ rights and remain fully aligned with EU rules and standards.

Protection of the environment through criminal law

I voted in favour because protecting the environment requires strong legal frameworks and effective action against serious environmental crimes. This Convention strengthens cooperation, improves accountability and ensures that environmental offences are met with appropriate sanctions, helping to better protect our shared environment.

2025 Commission report on Moldova

I voted in favour because Moldova’s European path depends on continued progress in strengthening the rule of law, justice reform and the fight against corruption. These reforms are essential for building democratic resilience, protecting Moldova from external interference and advancing towards EU membership.

2025 Commission report on Serbia

I voted in favour because Serbia’s European future depends on genuine progress in the areas of democracy, rule of law and fundamental rights. The EU accession process must remain merit-based, with reforms and alignment with EU values and foreign policy as essential conditions for further progress.

The impact of the 1974 Turkish invasion on Cypriot women and girls, and the crimes committed by Turkish forces and consequences on gender equality

I voted in favour because protecting survivors of sexual violence and ensuring accountability for perpetrators must remain a priority. EU-wide legislation based on the absence of consent is an important step towards strengthening justice, supporting victims and ensuring equal protection across the Union.

Air passenger rights

I voted in favour because air passengers must have clear rights and effective protection when facing flight disruptions. Updating the rules on compensation, assistance and carrier liability will strengthen passenger protection and ensure fair treatment across the EU.

Temporary support and payment of advances regarding the increased fertiliser prices due to the Middle East crisis

I voted in favour because rising fertiliser prices are putting significant pressure on farmers and threatening the stability of food production in the EU. Temporary support measures are needed to help farmers maintain their production, protect food security and limit the impact of increased input costs on consumers.

International road passenger transport services by coach and bus in the border regions: cabotage operations between Austria and Switzerland

I voted in favour because improving cross-border public transport connections makes mobility more accessible and strengthens cooperation between neighbouring countries. Allowing these services will provide more choice for people living and working in border regions and support more sustainable transport options.

Draft amending budget no 1/2026: entering the surplus of the financial year 2025

I voted in favour because additional revenues for the EU budget should be used to address common challenges and unexpected needs, such as crises and emergencies. However, the Union also needs more sustainable own resources to ensure a stable and effective budget that can deliver on its priorities.

Mobilisation of the European Union Solidarity Fund: assistance to Romania, Cyprus and Spain with regard to natural disasters in 2025

I voted in favour because the European Union must stand in solidarity with Member States affected by devastating natural disasters. The mobilisation of the Solidarity Fund provides essential support for emergency response, recovery efforts and rebuilding damaged infrastructure, showing the added value of European cooperation.
