The Week Ahead 24 February – 02 March 2025
Delegations
EU-US relations/USA. A delegation of the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee will travel to Washington DC to meet with US Congress, US government entities, academics and industries representatives, as part of efforts to strengthen transatlantic cooperation in key policy areas. MEPs will assess the impact for US firms of major EU legislation covered by the committee, including the Digital Services Act (DSA), Digital Markets Act (DMA), EU AI Act, Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), Data Act, and Political Advertising Regulation (Monday to Friday).
EU-UK relations/UK. A delegation from the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will go to London to discuss EU-UK relations. They will cover competitiveness and investment, Ukraine’s reconstruction and sanctions against Russia, banking supervision, financial services, and digital finance. MEPs will meet, among others, the Bank of England Deputy Governor, the Financial Secretary to the Treasury and members of House of Lords and House of Commons (Monday to Wednesday).
EU enlargement/Moldova. A delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee will visit Moldova to hear from the country’s government and parliament as they continue to implement reforms and drive Moldova’s EU accession forward. MEPs will also discuss the new €1.9 billion EU facility to support the country, on which Parliament will vote in March. The delegation will meet with, among others, Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu, and Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popșoi (Tuesday to Thursday).
Security/Bosnia and Herzegovina. A Security and Defence Committee delegation will go to Sarajevo to re-confirm Parliament’s commitment to the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a candidate country, and to monitor the evolving security situation there. MEPs will meet with the representatives of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, High Representative Christian Schmidt, Bosnian Defence Minister Zukan Helez, and Foreign Affairs Minister Elmedin Konaković. They will also assess the work of the EUFOR Althea military operation (Monday to Thursday).
Three years since Russia’s invasion. To mark the third anniversary of Russia’s aggression, on Monday 24 February, Parliament will display EU and Ukrainian flags in support of Ukraine at its three sites (Sunday 23 February to Tuesday).
President’s diary. European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will receive the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Gideon Sa'ar, and address Ukraine’s Defence and Security Strategy of Unity - Action Plan Summit, on Monday.
