Committee and political group meetings, Brussels
2027 EU budget. Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration Commissioner Piotr Serafin will present the Commission proposal for the EU budget for 2027 to MEPs in the Budgets Committee, followed by a debate. This is the last EU annual budget within the current multiannual financial framework (Wednesday).
Simplifying measures for EU firms (omnibus IV package). As part of the omnibus IV package, Parliament and Council negotiators will try to agree on a wider use of digital formats for EU firms to fulfil reporting obligations. The draft bill would also improve communication between economic operators and authorities and reinforce the EU’s ability to help firms comply with requirements for specific products. Also under the omnibus IV proposals, EU co-legislators will seek an agreement on a separate proposal to extend certain alleviating measures available to SMEs to small mid-cap enterprises (SMCs) (Tuesday).
Migration and asylum pact. A press conference with the lead MEPs on the entry into force on 12 June of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, adopted in May 2024, will take place on Wednesday at 9.15.
Plenary preparations. Political groups will prepare for the 15-18 June plenary session, where MEPs will hold final votes on the EU-US trade deal, on new rules for plants obtained with new genomic techniques, on new circularity rules for the automotive sector and on new measures to reinforce farmers’ position in the food supply chain. MEPs will also debate and vote on simplifying certain rules within the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act as part of the digital omnibus package. Plenary will outline its expectations for the 18-19 June EU summit and debate how the EU can achieve digital sovereignty and resilience. In two formal sittings, MEPs will hear from Andrzej Poczobut, 2025 Sakharov Prize laureate, and Jakov Milatović, President of Montenegro.
Pre-session press briefing. Parliament’s Press Service will hold a press briefing with the political group spokespersons at 11.00 on Friday (Anna Politkovskaya room, press centre, Brussels).
President’s diary. On Monday, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will receive William Samoei Ruto, President of Kenya, in Brussels. On Tuesday, President Metsola will be in London where she will address the Wall-Street Journal CEO summit. On Wednesday, she will preside over the Conference of Presidents in Brussels, which NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will also attend. On Friday, the President will be in Bratislava to meet Richard Raši, speaker of Slovakia’s National Council and Prime Minister Robert Fico. She will then participate in a townhall discussion with students, followed by a meeting with Slovakia’s President Peter Pellegrini.
