STOA workshop: Planetary Health: A Critical Discipline for the Future

Workshops STOA
European Parliament, Brussels, Room SPINELLI 5E2 and webstreamed

In an era of rapid environmental change, planetary health has emerged as a key discipline, linking human well-being with the state of Earth's natural systems. The planetary boundaries framework is central to this perspective. It defines the limits within which humanity can operate safely without destabilising the Earth system. Exceeding these limits threatens the foundations of health, food security, and sustainable development. Addressing these risks requires an integrated approach that brings together environmental science, medicine, policy, and social innovation.

This event aimed to foster dialogue and collaboration between the European Parliament and scientists working in the field of planetary health. Participants engaged in discussions about the possibilities, challenges and opportunities within the field of planetary health by sharing scientific perspectives and exploring the latest research. The event seeked to expand understanding of this evolving discipline and inspire transformative action to maintain the resilience of our planet and ensure the well-being of current and future generations.
