During the July plenary session, the European Parliament is expected to vote on an agreement with the Council aimed at addressing third countries' unsustainable practices in relation to shared fish stocks. The agreed text resulting from interinstitutional negotiations would amend existing EU legislation in order to make the rules for penalising non-cooperative third countries clearer and more transparent. The aim is to ensure the sustainability of shared fish stocks and to protect EU fishers from ...

During the July plenary session, Parliament is due to vote on giving its consent to the conclusion of a new protocol implementing the EU fisheries agreement with Greenland. This agreement is valuable for EU fisheries relations in the north-east Atlantic. Not only does it allow EU vessels to continue fishing in Greenlandic waters, it enables the EU to exchange a significant part of the quotas it receives from Greenland with Norway.

On 5 June 2025, the European Commission adopted the European ocean pact. The world's seas and oceans are under severe and increasing pressure from pollution, climate change, and over-exploitation. The deterioration of the environment, coupled with the growing demand for maritime space and marine resources, has emphasised the necessity of coherent ocean governance — a goal that the ocean pact aims to achieve. The pact is a non-legislative strategy intended to serve as a unified reference framework ...

This study focuses on the recent development of the market for plant-based seafood substitutes and the challenges that it has generated for the EU fisheries sector in terms of labelling. The study shows that potentially non-compliant marketing strategies indeed exist on a large scale, and provides an overview of national initiatives to tackle such issues. Finally, it proposes some adjustments to the current EU legal framework, to ensure that the labelling of novel products provides accurate information ...

Skupna ribiška politika: nastanek in razvoj
