UN Women is the United Nations agency for women's rights, gender equality and women's empowerment.
About us
UN Women is the United Nations agency for women's rights, gender equality and women's empowerment. A global champion ForAllWomenAndGirls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. UN Women supports UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality, and works with governments and civil society to design laws, policies, programmes and services needed to implement these standards. It stands behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life, focusing on five priority areas: increasing women’s leadership and participation; ending violence against women; engaging women in all aspects of peace and security processes; enhancing women’s economic empowerment; and making gender equality central to national development planning and budgeting. UN Women also coordinates and promotes the UN system’s work in advancing gender equality.

What does peace actually look like? 🔵 Women at the table. 🔵 Women taking up roles in leadership. 🔵 Women whose safety is non-negotiable. Because you can’t build trust, inclusion, or reconciliation without them. This #LivingTogetherInPeace day, we’re reminded that #peace is only as strong as the women who shape it. 🕊️ #ForAllWomenAndGirls

The digital world is being shaped as we speak. Women cannot be left out of the rooms deciding how it works, or who it protects. And yet, women remain underrepresented in cybersecurity and in the spaces where digital decisions are made. At precisely the moment when cyber threats are escalating. This is not only a pipeline problem. It is a systems problem. Through the Women Empowerment in Cybersecurity Award, UN Women is joining partners including the Global Cybersecurity Forum and the International Telecommunication Union to recognize organizations working to change that — from building pathways for girls, to advancing women's leadership and entrepreneurship in cyber. Because when women shape cybersecurity, digital systems are stronger, safer and better equipped to protect people and uphold rights. That's the digital future we need. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/ey6FUt7v

Reported ≠ resolved. For women journalists, online violence doesn’t end when it’s reported — fewer than 40% of countries have legal protections for digital violence. In the age of #AI, this violence is scaling fast – with little to no accountability. New EU-funded research from UN Women shows how, and what’s at stake. When women drive, we create opportunities for women's 🛻 mobility 🚌 employment 🚚 access to security Through the #SheDrives project, UN Women works with the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of #Ukraine to challenge gender stereotypes by training women in the transport sector. During her recent official mission to Ukraine, UN Women Deputy Executive Director, Kirsi Madi saw the impact of this project firsthand. Once we open roads for women, we open futures #ForAllWomenAndGirls.

From the horrific death toll to attacks on civilian infrastructure, after more than 1,500 days the full-scale invasion of #Ukraine has become even deadlier for women and girls. Yet, women continue to lead the response by: 🔵 Keeping hospitals running 🔵 Teaching children in underground classrooms 🔵 Holding their families and communities together See how UN Women is taking action across Ukraine to ensure that women's needs are met amid calls for lasting #peace: https://lnkd.in/eiZqbwXW #ForAllWomenAndGirls

Before every achievement, there is imagination. Before every breakthrough, the courage to dream. #OnThisDay we celebrate Ellen Ochoa — engineer, astronaut, trailblazer and the first Hispanic woman in space — whose journey continues to inspire women and girls to reach for futures once thought impossible. Happy Birthday, Ellen Ochoa. 🚀✨
