Mesothermal vein-type gold deposit, hosted in a sequence of Early Carboniferous volcanic-sedimentary rocks outside of the contact zone of the Baogutu stock. The ore bodies are controlled by NE-trending faults and fractures, and consist of quartz-sulfide vein stockworks which formed in three paragenetic stages: (1) coarse-grained quartz–sulfide veins, (2) gold-bearing fine-grained quartz–sulfide veins, and (3) native antimony-bearing calcite–sulfide veinlets.
The deposit consists of four isolated vein clusters (ore blocks) within an area of about 10 x 10 km, west of the Baogutu copper deposit.
The Baogutu gold deposit is the largest intrusion-related gold deposit in the West Junggar region. It is hosted by the Early Carboniferous Baogutu Group and the Late Carboniferous diorite dikes. The Baogutu Group consists of tuffaceous siltstone, silty tuff and felsic tuff. The veins strike 31–58° and dip 70–77° NW, with some extending to depths of 500 m. Their dimensions vary: strike lengths measure 10–150 m, while thicknesses range from 0.5 to 3 m. The Baogutu deposit is classified as an intrusion-related gold deposit
Note:
Not to be confused withe the Baogutu porphyry copper deposit, which comprises associated high temperature vein-type gold mineralization within the contact zone.
