A new research study led by the University of Tasmania is inviting General Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, and Pharmacists across Australia to share their insights into supporting patients who want to quit nicotine addiction/dependence from tobacco smoking and vaping.* The study aims to better understand how health professionals are navigating tobacco smoking and vaping cessation strategies, and the evolving landscape of nicotine regulation. The findings will help shape future support for health professionals working with people who have nicotine addiction/dependence. Participants can take part in a short 10–15-minute survey, a 30-minute online interview, or both, and they will automatically go in the draw to win one of five $50 gift vouchers and interviewees receive a $70 gift voucher - 👉 https://lnkd.in/gRrJ2Gnj *Cancer Council provides links to research projects that may be of interest to our volunteers. Interested in helping improve cancer care? This research will help identify gaps in current care in Australia and help us improve our care models.* It aims to collect data on the experiences of patients and carers who have been directly impacted by cancer, including the processes of diagnosis, treatment and post-cancer care across Australia, by inviting you to complete a questionnaire 👉 https://lnkd.in/gDe2r9Eu *Cancer Council provides links to research projects that may be of interest to our volunteers. We spent last week out in Penrith at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with Paddle Australia. It was absolutely phenomenal seeing the athletes in action and leading on joining the dots between sun safety and outdoor sports. Have a listen to our very own Liz King and the work she has been doing with the Australian Institute Of Sport and international leaders. We know you know what to do when it comes to sun safety but we need to make it part of every day practice. If you’re a sport leader, reach out to Liz to help us embed sun safety in outdoor sports 🙆♀️🧴🤠⛱️😎
Last week Cancer Council NSW supported Paddle Australia in making their ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships at Penrith Whitewater Stadium a sun safe event. It was a pleasure working with Paddle Australia’s leadership to champion sun safety across athletes, spectators, support staff, and competitors. With VIPs from the Australian Institute Of Sport, Paddle Aus, and international delegates in attendance, this event marks the beginning of a strong sun safety partnership and legacy. Thanks to my Cancer Council colleagues for their support, and to Paddle Australia for the opportunity to kickstart an approach to co-designing how sun safety can be embedded into the 'everyday' of the sports sector. Illicit tobacco and vape sellers are being stopped. NSW Health is set to block up to 1000 licence applications from retailers with a history of selling illegal tobacco. 📢 “It’s confirming what the community has been incredibly concerned about,” says Cancer Council NSW’s Anita Dessaix. We support careful assessment and stronger enforcement to protect communities. Read more here 👇 https://lnkd.in/gF-G-6RR

Cancer Council NSW reposted this
We’re proud to share our latest research, published in EMBO Molecular Systems Biology, which showcases a major advance in paediatric cancer precision medicine. What we developed: A high-throughput 3D bioprinting platform that creates patient-specific tumour models (“tumouroids”) using engineered hydrogels that mimic the tumour’s native extracellular matrix. These models: ** Recapitulate the molecular and phenotypic features of the original tumours ** Enable rapid and scalable drug screening ** Reveal patient-specific drug vulnerabilities ** Are compatible with direct bioprinting from cryopreserved patient samples Why it matters: Children with high-risk cancers often face limited treatment options and toxic therapies. Our platform addresses key barriers in preclinical testing: speed, scalability, and fidelity, offering a powerful tool for personalised treatment strategies. 📊 We validated the tumouroids across neuroblastoma, Ewing sarcoma, and osteosarcoma, confirming their tumourigenicity, molecular fidelity, and drug response profiles. 📄 Read the full paper: https://lnkd.in/gZaXQ7KU 🧠 This work was made possible through funding from Cancer Council NSW National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Children's Cancer Institute UNSW Medicine & Health Australian Centre for NanoMedicine UNSW RNA Institute #PrecisionMedicine #PaediatricCancer #3DBioprinting #Tumouroids #DrugScreening #CancerResearch #InnovationInHealth #ZEROChildhoodCancer

A new, refreshing content series of ours, “Anything Goes”, inspired by the format of TV show “You Can’t Ask That”. A real spark of brilliance that we enjoyed collaborating with Laundry Lane on; and an incredibly special shout has to go out to our community ambassadors for generously starring and sharing their stories. We are already seeing encouraging early results from our brand campaign and believe it will go on to help many 🌼
The Cancer Council NSW video series is now live. We filmed with five incredible Community Ambassadors, inviting them to answer the kinds of questions people often think about but rarely ask. Their candid, thoughtful and sometimes surprising responses balanced raw honesty with moments of humour, emotion and connection. Shot in our studio against a clean white backdrop, we kept the focus on each ambassador and wove in subtle brand elements to connect their stories back to the service. Behind-the-scenes moments brought warmth and intimacy, building trust in the conversation.
