From Tehran’s streets to Parliament’s chambers, one message was clear: Freedom for the people of Iran. The European Parliament has adopted a resolution condemning the Islamic Republic of Iran’s brutal repression of the brave and legitimate protest movement and standing shoulder to shoulder with those demanding dignity, rights, and democracy. The Parliament calls on the EU to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organisation and to hold those responsible accountable.   MEPs call for the regime to:  • End the brutal crackdown and mass killings of peaceful protesters  • Immediately stop the state-sanctioned killings used to silence dissent  • Release every imprisoned demonstrator and political prisoner now In the resolution adopted by 562 votes in favour with 9 against and 57 abstentions, Parliament also urges tougher and strictly enforced EU sanctions, condemns internet shutdowns and demands full access for the UN fact-finding mission to investigate grave human rights crimes.     To the brave people of Iran, the European Parliament stands with you.   Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e-qyVtum

Ukraine needs EU support now more than ever.   That is why Parliament has fast-tracked the procedure to give Ukraine a 90€ billion loan from the EU.   If adopted, it would provide military assistance and general budget support to the government in Kyiv, as well as support Ukraine’s defence industry and its integration into the European Defence Industrial Base.   The loan will now have to be agreed between members of Parliament and EU countries.   Find out more https://lnkd.in/ePBbmjjb

One EU market. Too many company rules. But not for long.   The EU is preparing to take a major step forward for EU competitiveness, and Parliament has just spelt out its demands.   Parliament members adopted recommendations for a new, optional EU-wide legal framework for innovative companies, built around a single set of harmonised rules that companies could opt in to.   The so-called Unified European Company could help start-ups and scale-ups expand across the EU.   Key ideas include:   - One optional legal framework valid across all 27 EU countries - Fully digital registration within ~48 hours - Only €1 minimum capital required - Easier access to cross-border investment and talent   The goal: deepen the single market, boost cross-border EU investment and strengthen Europe’s competitiveness.   This should make life easier for start-ups, scale-ups and also SMEs, allowing them to grow, generate more profit and create new jobs.   The European Commission is expected to propose the law in early 2026.   Read more: https://lnkd.in/eRzTZey7

Decisions concerning Denmark and Greenland belong to Denmark and Greenland alone.   Members of the European Parliament are debating a united EU response to the claims of the US President Trump's administration that the United States should acquire Greenland, an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark.

Following the latest scandal related to X's AI chatbot 'Grok', Parliament members debate the growing risks posed by AI-generated deepfakes.   Members discuss how EU laws can be enforced more effectively to prevent AI from creating illegal sexual content, such as explicit images of women and children.

Kicking off the first session of the new year, Parliament will discuss tackling the shortages of critical medicine such as antibiotics, insulin and vaccines by making them more available in the EU. It will also focus on enforcing EU laws against AI deepfakes and sexual exploitation on social media more effectively.   Parliament members will work on supporting Greenland’s territorial integrity and sovereignty following US plans to acquire the nation, the state of EU-US relations and the need for a more resilient and autonomous EU.   Strengthening the EU’s defence policy with strategic partnerships is also on the packed agenda.   Find out what else your elected representatives will take on this week: https://lnkd.in/eUp44Azh

"The European Parliament unequivocally condemns the statements made by the Trump administration regarding Greenland, which constitute a blatant challenge to international law, to the principles of the United Nations Charter and to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a NATO ally. Such statements are unacceptable and have no place in relations between democratic partners." Yesterday, European Parliament leaders expressed Parliament's unequivocal support to Greenland and Denmark.
