As part of STOA’s mission to bridge the gap between science and policy, a delegation of MEPs visited the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, the ALBA Synchrotron, and the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO)! 🇪🇸 Last week, STOA Vice-Chair Ivars Ijabs and STOA members Laura Ballarín Cereza, Herbert Dorfmann and José Cepeda García de León exchanged with leading scientists from the three Spanish institutions on: ▶ Funding needs and sources; ▶ New developments in software and hardware (chips, quantum, photonics); ▶ Competition from third countries; ▶ EU strategies for quantum and AI & the development of dual-use technologies; ▶ Green tech and regulatory initiatives and provisions for R&D; ▶ Retention and attraction of talent in the EU. The visit, hosted by the Departament de Recerca i Universitats of Catalunya, was organised as part of STOA’s efforts to engage with experts, scientists, and stakeholders on key R&I issues to ensure that scientific advancements and evidence inform EU policymaking 🤝

And that’s a wrap! 👏 The 2025 ESMH Summer School ended on a high note with Mirko Bischofberger’s insightful masterclass on 'Artificial Intelligence for Science Communication'.
