Looking forward to my presentation at the Open Data Panel Session during the 61st Meeting of the Asia Pacific Advanced Network Conference (APAN 61), taking place in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I’m delighted to join an excellent panel chaired by Veerachai Tanpipat (ThaiREN) and featuring Matti Heikkurinen (CODATA), Iryna Kuchma (EIFL), Trish Radotic 🚀 Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC), Yu Chen (CNIC, Chinese Academy of Sciences), and Ai Sugiura (UNESCO). In my presentation, I highlight open research infrastructure as a critical pillar for adopting Open Science, in line with the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, with a focus on DataCite and persistent identifiers as enablers of trusted, open, and interoperable research systems. We are thrilled to announce that the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN) is taking the lead in a new regional #ORCID consortium as part of its dedication to implementing sustainable infrastructures and enhancing cooperation through open research and research integrity. The new ORCID-ASREN Consortium is the second of our Regional Consortia program, launched in 2023 to enable adoption of ORCID in regions where there may be insufficient capacity or too few organizations to support a national consortium. The new community of practice is particularly important in this region given the challenges of name ambiguity and spelling variations, especially in the Arabic language and with Arabic names, where a unique ORCID iD is essential to ensure a researcher's work is correctly acknowledged.
