Innovating statistics
Innovation is a fundamental pillar of Eurostat’s approach to modernising statistics, using cutting-edge tools to deliver new, faster, more detailed, and easier-to-access data.
Working closely with national statistical institutes across the EU, Eurostat continuously implements new technologies, methodologies, and business ideas to improve the quality, timeliness, and relevance of statistical data. This commitment helps address emerging challenges and supports agile policymaking.
Additionally, Eurostat engages extensively with the international research community to promote collaboration and exchange knowledge to improve the development, production, and dissemination of high-quality European statistics.
Experimental statistics
In some statistical areas, Eurostat compiles experimental statistics using new data sources and methods to meet emerging needs promptly.
Such statistics are not yet fully harmonised or comprehensive, and they are always marked as being experimental and are accompanied by detailed methodological notes that inform users of their limitations.

ESS innovation agenda
The ESS innovation agenda promotes the use of digital technologies, new data sources, and artificial intelligence to keep Eurostat and the ESS agile and forward-thinking.
The agenda addresses evolving data challenges while ensuring the delivery of high-quality statistics in a rapidly changing landscape.
Collaboration in research and methodology
Through initiatives like the Collaboration in Research and Methodology (CROS) portal, Eurostat promotes cooperation between researchers and statisticians to improve statistical methods, production, and dissemination.
This collaboration includes training courses, workshops, and seminars through the European Statistical Training Programme (ESTP) and the European Master in Official Statistics (EMOS).
