Hold onto your hats, language lovers! The winners of the Juvenes Translatores translation contest for secondary schools will be announced during a live broadcast on Thursday 13 February at 11:00 CET time. Stay tuned!
Juvenes Translatores is an annual EU-wide translation contest for 17-year-old secondary school students, and the competition has been inspiring young linguists since 2007. This year's theme was 'Digital Citizenship Education'.
Who shone the brightest?
These 17-year-olds translated texts between the 24 official languages of the EU, with winners being selected from each Member State. The winning translators will celebrate their multilingual feat at an award ceremony in Brussels, where they will meet other language enthusiasts, explore the city and receive their prizes.
This year, 3,070 teenagers from 713 secondary schools participated. Of the 552 language combinations available, they used 144 of those combinations—including some pairs such as Slovenian into Danish and Portuguese into Finnish.
All the participants deserve a huge round of applause for their efforts. The next generation of translators will be lucky to have such bright young minds joining the profession, and we wish them all the best in their future language learning.
