European 112 Day: Your Lifeline in an Emergency!

112 (emergency telephone number)

Did you know that there's a special day dedicated to the number that can save your life?

112 is the emergency call number that can be dialled from anywhere in Europe. By dialling 112, individuals can access emergency services, including the police, fire brigade, and ambulance services in any European country, as well as some non-EU countries like Switzerland and Turkey, without having to memorise different numbers. The 112 emergency call number is a game-changer for ensuring the safety of travellers and locals alike.

The amazing work of this multinational European service is celebrated every year on February 11th (11/2, get it?). For teachers, this day is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the 112 number, and to educate themselves and their pupils about how it might be useful if they ever find themselves in an emergency situation.

How does it work?

When a call is made to 112, a trained operator will answer and ask a few questions to assess the situation. They can locate the caller, and they often speak multiple languages.

Get involved!
Spread the word about 112-day! Share this information with your pupils, and remember, in an emergency, dial 112!
