Programme for Young EU Journalists

The Training Programme for Young European Journalists is a flagship initiative by the European Parliament aimed at strengthening the capacity of early-career journalists across the EU to report on European affairs with greater knowledge and accuracy, while safeguarding editorial independence.

The programme is built around two complementary modules:

  • The first is organised in EU Member States, through national and regional media organisations such as press agencies or journalism associations. These training sessions provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to the EU and its institutions, without losing sight of national context. They also offer practical tools to enhance reporting on complex European topics. Participating organisations are selected through public procurement procedures that ensure editorial integrity and diversity across countries. All details related to the past procedures are publicly available to ensure full transparency (e.g. Call for tenders 2022 - Result ; Call for tenders 2023 - Result).
  • The second module is hosted by the European Parliament’s press services in Brussels, where participants engage in a rich programme of workshops, guided visits and thematic briefings. They meet Members of the European Parliament, EU spokespersons, Brussels-based correspondents, and other key actors of European-level communication, also having the opportunity to explore the Parliament’s press and audiovisual facilities. Practical sessions on how to address disinformation, multimedia production, and institutional transparency complement discussions with MEPs on key policy files such as the European Green Deal, the EU’s long-term budget, or the European Media Freedom Act.

The programme is designed to foster lasting professional connections between journalists and EU institutions, while contributing to a more informed, pluralistic and resilient media environment. By bringing together young reporters from different Member States, it also encourages cross-border journalistic cooperation.

Through the Training Programme the European Parliament reaffirms its commitment to supporting professional journalism and reinforcing the role of independent media as a cornerstone of democracy across the Union.
