Countering VAT and customs fraud for the protection of the Union’s financial interest
On 7 September 2026, the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT), the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) and the Subcommittee on Tax Matters (FISC) will hold a joint Public Hearing on "Countering VAT and customs fraud for the protection of the Union’s financial interests – the Anti-Fraud Architecture revision".
The hearing will examine how organised crime exploits the Single Market through VAT and customs fraud, undermining the Union’s financial interests, and will consider how fraud cases can be better detected, investigated and followed up to ensure the recovery of lost revenue. Members will exchange views with experts and representatives from the European Commission, the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) and national authorities on existing vulnerabilities and possible ways to strengthen the EU framework for preventing and combating revenue fraud.
