🗺️ The European Commission EU City Database on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (#SUMPs) is available to support practitioners, policy makers, researchers and #UrbanMobility planners across Europe. This comprehensive repository brings together publicly available information on nearly 600 European cities, including all 431 urban nodes on the TEN-T network. Users can explore: ✅ SUMP status for each city ✅ Population data from official sources ✅ Direct links to published mobility plans and city websites ✅ An interactive map with filtering by country, urban node and now also by TEN-T corridors Whether you work on policy development, project design or research, the database offers a valuable overview of local mobility planning efforts across the EU. We invite the urban mobility community to explore the tool and share feedback to help us ensure accurate and up-to-date information. 🔗 Access the database: https://ow.ly/5F1F50XKeTP #UrbanMobilityEU #SustainableCities #TEN_T

🚊🎫🌉 Transforming commuter rail into RER-type urban systems Explore lessons from European cities on the key factors needed to successfully adapt commuter rail into metro-style, RER-type systems (metropolitan rail systems). 📣 Paris’s RER represents a system that merges commuter rail and metro functions. It combines the regional reach of commuter rail with metro-like frequency, full network integration and high accessibility. 📣 Vienna’s S-Bahn has undergone major infrastructure upgrades, and its innovative Klimaticket fare system provides unlimited travel nationwide and regionally, simplifying fares, supporting modal shift, and reinforcing integration. In contrast, Prague’s and Amsterdam’s systems remain more suburban in character, with lower service frequencies, limited night operations and weaker integration. The comparison of rail systems reveals that frequent service, coherent governance, high accessibility, and simple, integrated fares are key to transforming commuter rail into genuine RER-type urban systems. Co-designing Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) for Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) 🚆🚌🚋 In many Central European regions, access to public transport and shared mobility remains limited in rural and suburban areas. DRT offers a way forward – enhancing accessibility, social inclusion, and environmental performance while keeping services economically viable. Explore insights from diverse EU pilots showcasing how DRT can be integrated into regional mobility networks via co-designed solutions. Projects include: 🏙️ DREAM_PACE: Insights from 5 EU countries testing co-designed solutions, including digital solutions, flexible routing, and diverse governance. 🚍 Sprinti (Lower Saxony, Germany): On-demand buses improving accessibility and cutting emissions in peripheral areas. 📋 Nationwide study (Germany): Evaluating quality, acceptance, and usage of on-demand vs. scheduled services. 📖 Explore the case study for full details: https://lnkd.in/eeKqjzvZ #DRT #SUMPs #SustainableTransport DREAM_PACE, ÜSTRA Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe AG, EU Transport, EIT Urban Mobility, Eurocities, EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK

80% of EU territory is rural and home to 30% of the population, making accessibility a prime concern for those in rural areas. 🌳🚗 💡 The integration of rural mobility into Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) is increasingly important in EU policy, ensuring planning extends beyond urban cores to include rural and peri-urban regions. ✅ The SMARTA-NET guidance on integrating rural mobility aspects in SUMP design (also known as ‘rural proofing’) provides a step-by-step checklist of 12 key actions within the four-phase SUMP cycle, including rural proofing triggering questions and practical guidance for city authorities to support the integration and implementation of rural mobility aspects into SUMPs. 🗺️ The guidance offers flexible recommendations supported by real-world case study examples that can be transferred and adapted to different needs and local contexts. 🤝 Already used as a capacity-building tool in EU-wide training events, this guidance helps practitioners design inclusive mobility solutions for all regions. 👉 Explore the case study now: https://ow.ly/y4Ky50XHicK #SMARTANET #SUMPs #DiversityInTransport EU Transport, SMARTA-NET, TIS - Consultores em Transportes, Inovação e Sistemas, EIT Urban Mobility, Eurocities, EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK

On Human Rights Day 2025, the United Nations reminds us that human rights are “the essentials we rely on every day.” Mobility is one of these essentials. Access to work, education, healthcare, and social participation depends on the ability to move safely, affordably and reliably. When mobility is limited or unaffordable, transport poverty arises — restricting opportunities and undermining fundamental rights. The EU Urban Mobility Observatory provides a knowledge hub for cities developing sustainable, inclusive and equitable transport systems. Addressing transport poverty is key - ensuring that vulnerable groups can access public transport and active mobility options is essential to safeguarding the right to work, the right to health, and equal opportunities for all. At Urban Mobility Days (#UMD25), this challenge was explored in depth, including through sessions on: 🔹 Cycling and transport poverty: enabling cycling for all (Day 2, 11:30–12:45) 🔹 Ensuring public transport accessibility, affordability and availability for all (Day 3, 09:30–10:45) Learn more about our work: https://ow.ly/ANQE50XGJrW #HumanRightsDay #UrbanMobility #TransportPoverty

A major milestone for road safety across the EU has been reached as modernised rules on driving licences and the mutual recognition of driving disqualifications now apply. With 19,940 lives lost on EU roads last year, progress toward Vision Zero remains far too slow. These new measures take concrete steps to protect all road users. Key highlights: ✅ EU-wide accompanied driving for 17-year-olds ✅ A probationary period for novice drivers ✅ Mutual recognition of driving disqualifications to ensure serious offences have consequences everywhere ✅ Introduction of digital EU driving licences, accessible on mobile devices and valid across the EU The legislation has entered into force and will apply in Member States after transposition over the next four years, with some rules applying sooner.
