The 17th TWAS General Conference has officially opened in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, under the theme “Building a Sustainable Future: The Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation for Global Development”. Organized by TWAS – The World Academy of Sciences and the Academia Brasileira de Ciências, the four-day event brings together scientists from across the world to discuss how knowledge, creativity, and collaboration can contribute to a more just, sustainable, and multipolar future. As President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva underlined in his message to the opening ceremony: “Science is indispensable not only for economic progress but also for human dignity, for democracy, and for the sustainability of our planet.” We look forward to following the discussions and outcomes of this important global gathering.
