About us
ORCID’s mission is to enable transparent and trustworthy connections between researchers, their contributions, and their affiliations by providing a unique, persistent identifier for individuals to use as they engage in research, scholarship, and innovation activities. We do this by providing three important things: 1. The ORCID iD: a unique, persistent identifier free of charge to researchers 2. An ORCID record connected to the ORCID iD, and 3. A set of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), as well as the services and support of communities of practice that enable interoperability between an ORCID record and member organizations so researchers can choose to allow connection of their iD with their affiliations and contributions ORCID is a global, not-for-profit organization sustained by fees from our member organizations. We are community-built and governed by a Board of Directors representative of our membership with wide stakeholder representation. ORCID is supported by a dedicated and knowledgeable professional staff.

🌏 It has been a week after the QS 2025 APAC Summit host by Korea University in sunny Seoul! ☀️ Energized by the QS 2025 APAC Summit — where strategy meets infrastructure across Asia-Pacific’s research ecosystem (and beyond). Being a newcomer, I was especially excited to connect with a growing community of professionals from strategic planning and institutional research offices. While traditionally focused on analytics, rankings, and performance metrics, I found out one standout theme - Alignment. ORCID as a key enabler of: 🔗 Uniquely identified researchers across systems and borders 📊 Trust Markers for strategic planning and benchmarking 📈 Enhanced discoverability of institutional outputs 🧩 Interoperability with platforms like Scopus, research management systems (RIMS) or CRIS, and national/ institutional research systems * For instance, the webinar Enabling Value featuring Pure (https://lnkd.in/gngMNZth) ORCID’s trusted data plays a critical role in curation and disambiguation within indexing service providers. It isn’t just a tool for researchers — it’s a strategic asset for institutions aiming to build transparent, efficient, and globally connected research infrastructures. 💡This is just the beginning. The conversations at QS APAC 2025 revealed a shared appetite for deeper collaboration — Researchers register for an ORCID iD and connect with any research workflow. Institutions adopt ORCID to empower students, faculty and institutions.
