There are large differences across countries in the size of the STEM workforce. In some OECD countries, science and engineering (S&E) and information and communication technology (ICT) professionals together make up more than 10% of total employment, including Finland Israel, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Sweden. The combined share falls below 3% in other OECD countries including Colombia, Mexico and Türkiye, and below 2% in several partner economies, including Argentina, India, Indonesia and Peru. How do tax-benefit systems impact people’s life satisfaction? Our latest paper, supported via #TSI, explores how tax‑benefit systems play a significant role in shaping differences in people’s subjective well‑being across European countries. The findings show that while higher taxes alone are associated with lower life satisfaction, citizens in countries with effective governments experience higher overall life satisfaction. It also reveals that lower-income households tend to report higher life satisfaction when they receive more support through benefit, while higher-income households that pay more taxes report only slightly lower life satisfaction. This suggests that inclusive tax-benefit systems can enhance overall life satisfaction if accompanied by good governance quality. Governments widely use tax incentives to attract and shape investment. When well designed and implemented, tax incentives can support investment policy goals, but the evidence on their performance in practice is mixed. Tax incentives are not always effective at achieving policy goals and can generate significant costs and economic distortions. The #OECD Investment Tax Incentives Database (ITID) compiles data on investment tax incentives across over 70 emerging and developing economies. This work enables cross-country comparisons and enhances the analysis of policy impacts. Early insights show that corporate income tax exemptions remain the most widely used instrument, despite often limited effectiveness. Meanwhile, well-designed expenditure-based incentives can more directly support new investment but are less used. Slovenia’s economy has demonstrated resilience amid external shocks, with its real GDP growing at a rate surpassing that of the OECD and the euro area since 2022. Projected GDP growth is set to strengthen to 1.9% in 2026 and 2.2% in 2027, as energy price pressures are assumed to diminish. Inflation is expected to gradually ease by 2027. GDP growth in the #OECD area increased slightly to 0.5% in Q2 2026, up from 0.4% in the previous quarter. 27 countries recorded growth, but at varying rates, while 3 saw no change in GDP. GDP growth in the G7 slowed to 0.3% in Q2 2026, down from 0.4% in Q1, reflecting slower growth in five G7 countries: Germany, from 0.4% to 0.2%; Italy, from 0.3% to 0.2%; Japan, from 0.5% to 0.3%; the United Kingdom, from 0.6% to 0.4%; and the United States, from 0.5% to 0.4%. By contrast, growth in Canada accelerated from zero in Q1 to 0.8% in Q2. In France, GDP returned to growth (0.2%) in Q2, following a contraction of 0.1% in Q1. Ireland recorded the highest quarter-on-quarter GDP growth in Q2, at 3.9%, followed by Israel, at 3.6%. At the other end of the spectrum, GDP was unchanged in Austria, Belgium and Chile.
