Global Humanitarian Overview
The Global Humanitarian Overview is the humanitarian community’s assessment of global humanitarian needs and resources required to respond to them. The aim is to provide an overview of needs and funding requirements, a call for generous funding towards the humanitarian appeals, and to amplify the voices of affected people, particularly women and girls. Published by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the Global Humanitarian Overview is the world’s most comprehensive, authoritative and evidence-based overview of the current state and future trends in humanitarian action.

Global Humanitarian Overview 2025
A snapshot of the global trends driving increased humanitarian needs in 2025 analysis from 2024 and an overview of where the system is delivering better to help those affected by crises. The Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) is the world’s most comprehensive authoritative and evidence-based assessment of humanitarian need. Through plans that prioritize those most in need it aims to fight hunger killer diseases gender-based violence and displacement. The GHO 2025 presents an analysis of global crises and needs and the humanitarian plans to address them. In 2025 humanitarian partners are appealing for over US$47 billion to assist nearly 190 million people facing life-threatening and urgent needs across 72 countries. The report looks at response trends to strengthen such as localization cash accountability and the changes needed to deliver aid effectively: security and funding. The GHO presents a collective picture of humanitarians' achievements and conversely what happens when humanitarians are unable to deliver aid. The Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) is the world’s most comprehensive authoritative and evidence-based assessment of humanitarian need. Through plans that prioritize those most in need it aims to fight hunger killer diseases gender-based violence and displacement. The GHO 2022 is a comprehensive assessment of global humanitarian needs and sets out how the international humanitarian community plans to respond in 2022. It is based on rigorous analysis that puts people in the centre of the planning. The GHO is also an appeal to donors to support the response to hunger disease gender-based violence and economic collapse in crises around the world.

Global Humanitarian Overview 2021
In 2021 235 million people will need humanitarian assistance and protection. This number has risen to 1 in 33 people worldwide - a significant increase from 1 in 45 at the launch of the Global Humanitarian Overview 2020 which was already the highest figure in decades. The UN and partner organizations aim to assist 160 million people most in need across 56 countries and will require a total of $35 billion to do so. 2020 has been a year like no other. Amid ongoing violent conflict rising hunger and the effects of climate change the pandemic will continue to have an impact in 2021. As the health and non-health effects of COVID-19 merge with other shocks humanitarian programming is also adjusting to treat it in a more integrated manner. Global Humanitarian Overview 2019
In 2019 nearly 132 million people will need humanitarian assistance and protection the majority because of the impact of conflict. The United Nations and partner organizations aim to assist nearly 94 million of them. The humanitarian response plans outlined in this year’s GHO are the result of in-depth country-by-country analysis of the most comprehensive data available. Funding requirements are projected to be comparable to last year. While some crises have escalated this year we also have better prioritization of the most vulnerable and severely affected people and a stronger coordination with development partners to ensure a focused humanitarian response.
