Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Alexis Tsipras, Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic

The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Alexis Tsipras, Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic. 

The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister discussed the increased movement of migrants and refugees towards Europe, and the challenges faced by Greece in that regard.

They also discussed the Cyprus talks and the Secretary-General welcomed the progress made by the leaders of the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities in the process. The Secretary-General underlined the importance of the Hellenic Republic’s continued support in this context.

They exchanged views on the prospects for resolution of the “name” issue between Greece and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
