We have concluded negotiations with Ecuador on a Sustainable Investment Facilitation Agreement 🇪🇺🇪🇨 This is our first SIFA with a Latin American country, and it sends a simple signal. Especially in uncertain times, predictability and cooperation matter. The agreement focuses on making investment easier in practice. Clearer rules, simpler procedures and improved dialogue between investors and public authorities. It also pays special attention to SMEs that often face the biggest hurdles when investing abroad. All this, while promoting sustainability. The agreement upholds environmental and climate commitments, respects labour rights and promotes responsible business conduct, so investment supports long-term development rather than short-term gains. Recently, the 🇪🇺-🇨🇦 Mutual Recognition Agreement for architects entered into force. In simple terms, it means that qualified architects on both sides can have their professional credentials 📃recognised more easily. The EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement is expected to boost EU agri-food exports to Mercosur by 50% thanks to: 🔹 Removing high tariffs and burdensome procedures, a competitive advantage against other countries which will keep facing prohibitive Mercosur tariffs 🔹 Enhancing market position for traditional EU food products by protecting them from imitation At the same time, it protects Europe’s farmers: 🔹 It limits the amount of sensitive agri-food products that Mercosur countries can export to the EU with lower tariffs 🔹 The EU can impose safeguard measures in case of a surge in EU agri-food imports from Mercosur - and a dedicated regulation, already adopted by the Council, enhances this protection 🔹 A new Unity Safety Net, with a total capacity of 6.3 billion euros, doubles the current agricultural reserve in case of crises 🔹 No agri-food products from Mercosur can enter the EU if they do not respect all the EU’s high health and safety standards - with increased Commission audits and checks in third countries and stronger controls on the ground and at the EU border 🔹The European Commission has launched impact assessments on a potential alignment of production standards on pesticides and animal welfare Find out more 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d3p-yvZ5 #EUTrade #Mercosur

Today, we signed the most ambitious and modern deals ever signed by the 🇪🇺: a Partnership Agreement and an Interim Trade Agreement with Mercosur 🇦🇷🇧🇷🇵🇾🇺🇾 The Agreement will create one of the largest trade zones in the world, covering a market of 720 million consumers. It will bring an estimated 39% (around 49 billion euros) increase in annual exports to Mercosur. It will: 🔹Remove tariffs on EU exports, including agri-food and key industrial products 🔹Make it easier, quicker and safer to invest in key supply chains 🔹Strengthen economic security and support the digital and green transition on both sides 🔹Help the two regions shape global trade rules in line with the highest EU standards.
