New package on Migration and Security
The European Commission adopted a package of documents on Migration and Security on 25 January 2017.
It includes:
- Joint Communication to the European Parliament, the European Council and the Council - Migration on the Central Mediterranean route - Managing flows, saving lives JOIN (2017) 04 final

The Commission and the High Representative presents a number of additional measures to strengthen the EU's work in this area. As part of a comprehensive strategy, the Communication identifies a set of key actions with a view to manage migration flows and save lives on the Central Mediterranean route.
- Proposal for a Council Implementing Decision setting out a Recommendation for prolonging temporary internal border control in exceptional circumstances putting the overall functioning of the Schengen area at risk COM (2017) 040 final - 2017/014 (NLE)

The Commission proposes that the Council allows Member States to maintain temporary controls for another three months.
