Second round of peer reviews (2013-2015)

The full set of guidance documentation and questionnaires for the second round of peer reviews is available below:

The peer review of Eurostat was conducted by the European Statistical Governance Advisory Board (ESGAB). It applied the overall methodology, but slightly adapted it to take into account Eurostat's specificities. The Eurostat peer review report and the Eurostat improvement actions in response to the ESGAB recommendations can be found in the ‘See also’ section at the bottom of this page.

Reports presenting the outcomes for each country as well as the improvement actions in response to the recommendations are provided in the table below. As in the first round of peer reviews, Eurostat prepared a report to the European Parliament and the Council. The report summarises the strengths of the ESS and the recommendations proposed by the peers.

Comparing the issues and recommendations contained in the peer review reports

The main section of the reports (section 4.2) discusses the issues found by the peer review experts in each country and with Eurostat. It proposes recommendations to further enhance or comply with the European Statistics Code of Practice. To facilitate the access and analysis of the wealth of information contained in that section, Eurostat has developed two tools:

  • a codification table
  • an adaptation of the European Statistical System Metadata Handler (ESS MH)

Issues and recommendations have been encoded according to the codification table and the ESS MH has been adapted and fed to create 33 files. The files are available on the ESS metadata handler website.

To access them, users need:

  • an ECAS account. If you do not have an ECAS account please follow the instructions
  • permission granted by Eurostat. Please contact [email protected] with your ECAS username, an e-mail address and the name of the domain you would like to work in (peer review).

Guidance is available in the document Tools for the analysis of the issues and recommendation of the peer review reports.
