A foreign company wants to invest in 🇪🇺 Most of the time, that means exactly what you’d expect: capital, jobs and new opportunities. But what if the investment involves sensitive technology? A strategic manufacturer? Critical infrastructure? That’s when we take a closer look. In 2025, EU countries notified 667 foreign investments to the EU cooperation mechanism: 40% more than the year before. ✅ 88% were closed within 15 days 🔎 12% needed a more in-depth security assessment 🏭 Manufacturing accounted for more than half of those deeper assessments, followed by information and communication technologies And there’s an important milestone too: all 27 EU Member States now have FDI screening systems in place. Thanks to the EU-Türkiye Customs Union, our bilateral trade reached a record of nearly 218 billion euros in goods in 2025. Glad to have welcomed Minister Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat to Brussels to co-chair our High-Level Dialogue on Trade. We keep addressing the remaining trade barriers that businesses perceive as obstacles. ✅ So, genuinely pleased to have announced that we have been able to remove one important barrier related to Türkiye's import control system, TAREKS. Türkiye has implemented several transparency measures that should make the system easier for EU exporters to use. ✅ Another good example is the outcome for trusted traders, which also reflects the EU's and Türkiye's shared interest in safety and security. We have agreed a Mutual Recognition Agreement on our Authorised Economic Operator programmes, with each side now recognising the other's trusted traders. Considered safe by both, the goods cross borders faster. We must – and I believe will – keep this momentum.
