Quality
In line with the European statistics code of practice and the ESS quality assurance framework, Eurostat carries out controls and validations on raw data transmitted by the national data providers to check if the total of a variable is consistent with the breakdown by different variables.
The validation rules consist of a basic set of rules checking the internal consistency of the transmitted files and of a further set of rules for analysing the trends, the changes, and the potential presence of outliers in the data.
For further details, please consult the information on quality management in the following metadata documents:
Moreover, the Quality report on European statistics on population and migration - 2024 edition provides insights into the quality of the migration and asylum statistics published by Eurostat. The data quality is evaluated against indicators covering the following components:
- relevance
- accuracy
- timeliness and punctuality
- accessibility and clarity
- coherence and comparability
The goal of the report is to provide users with information on different factors that could impact the quality of the statistics.
