  • The EU-supported Kouman project brought its experience from Côte d’Ivoire to Brussels through the immersive event “Quand on s’écoute, on se rencontre”. Built around the podcast 'Laissons parler les gens", the day combined reflection, collective listening and a live recording to showcase innovative ways of engaging young people through open conversations and stand-up comedy, while opening dialogue spaces on civic engagement, online violence and harmful narratives. Originally developed to help prevent violence during Côte d’Ivoire’s 2025 elections, Kouman shows how creative, youth-centred formats can support crisis prevention by creating trusted spaces for dialogue before polarisation turns into violence. In conversation with the West African diaspora in Europe, Kouman explores how these formats can travel, connect communities and inspire new approaches beyond Côte d’Ivoire. This is #EUForeignPolicy in action !

  • Preparedness begins long before an outbreak occurs. We need investigational vaccine reserves to enable rapid response to filovirus outbreaks and support outbreak research. The new €16 million EU4Health call managed by European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) will establish such reserves to advance vaccine development against human-pathogenic filoviruses, including Marburg, Bundibudgo Ebola and Sudan Ebola viruses, through clinical trials. This action contributes to DG HERA's work to strengthen the EU's preparedness for future health emergencies and improve access to medical countermeasures. 🗓️ Deadline: 2 September 2026 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eindqane

  • 🔵The ongoing #Ebola and #Hantavirus outbreaks are showing why preparedness, scientific cooperation and rapid operational coordination matter more than ever. Today, DG HERA and European Medicines Agency met in Amsterdam for their annual management-level meeting to discuss #cooperation on medical countermeasures, emergency clinical trials, regulatory agility, stockpiling and supply chain resilience. From diagnostics and therapeutics to vaccines and manufacturing readiness, #Europe’s preparedness architecture is increasingly moving from planning to operational delivery. The meeting also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation with global partners, accelerating access to medical countermeasures and ensuring #EU is better prepared for future cross-border health threats. Preparedness is not theoretical. It is about being able to act rapidly when lives are at stake.

CEPI is urgently accelerating the development of three investigational vaccine candidates towards clinical trials in response to the deeply concerning Bundibugyo ebolavirus epidemic. The outbreak, affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, has been classified as a public health emergency by both the Africa CDC and the World Health Organization. Just weeks since it was declared, it is already the third-largest Filovirus outbreak in history. With no licensed vaccines available for Bundibugyo virus and none in clinical development, CEPI's action reflects the critical need to produce additional tools to help curtail the outbreak. CEPI is investing up to $62 million to back a portfolio of candidates under development from longstanding partners with proven capabilities. These include candidates developed by IAVI, Moderna, and the University of Oxford, which will be manufactured at the Serum Institute of India Pvt. Ltd. The candidates were selected based on CEPI's comprehensive global review of Bundibugyo virus vaccines in development and extensive consultation with WHO, Africa CDC, ANRS-MIE, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and affected countries. Each uses a different validated vaccine technology to maximise the likelihood of success. All of the underlying vaccine technology platforms—rVSV, mRNA and ChAdOx1—have extensive safety data and have been used to develop vaccine candidates that have shown preclinical or clinical efficacy against related filoviruses. CEPI’s funding will ultimately support each vaccine candidate to begin clinical trials as quickly as possible. ➡️ Get the details in the press release: https://lnkd.in/eacpXf3p ➡️ CEPI has also opened an urgent Call for Proposals seeking additional Bundibugyo virus vaccine candidates. • From Seoul to Tokyo: Strengthening aviation through global partnerships   Aviation’s future is built on collaboration, innovation and resilience. That’s why the European Union is partnering with the Republic of Korea and Japan to tackle today’s most pressing challenges - from cybersecurity to next-generation airspace management. We have supported the EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency and Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) in delivering a three-week programme that covered: ✅ Safety oversight – Leveraging ICAO audit insights to reinforce regulatory frameworks ✅ Modern airspace solutions – Optimising approach operations to minimise delays and cut emissions ✅ Cybersecurity – Safeguarding critical systems across aircraft, airports and air traffic control While in Tokyo, we were building cyber resilience by supporting the EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) in convening regulators and industry leaders to address emerging cybersecurity threats. With digital risks evolving at pace, discussions focused on: ✅ Standardising certification to secure aircraft and infrastructure ✅ Enhancing cross-border collaboration between regulators and industry ✅ Countering threats such as GPS interference and jamming attacks Aviation transcends borders, and so must safety and innovation. Together, we’re making the skies safer for all. This is #EUForeignPolicy in action!
